HENDERSKELFE BROAD WALK SE 7170 (east end) Castle Howard 11/34 Medici Vase and pedestal GV II Medici vase and the pedestal on which it stands. Purchased 1778. Vase made by the Coade Company in Coade stone on sandstone base. Approximately 3.5 metres in height. Waterleaf enrichment to pedestal base. Sunk panels, one bearing Latin inscription, the other 3 with antique medallions. Moulded cornice carrying copy of Medici Vase decorated with figures representing the sacrifice of Iphigenia. Original: Cl AD now in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. Haskell F and Penny N, Taste and the Antique, 1981, p 316. HBMC, Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, Part 32, North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, Grade 1.
