The Backhouse Room

C17 timber-framed building of one aisle. Originally the carthouse of Upper Handside
farm, converted by Paul Mauger to a meeting room as a memorial to the climber Edward
Backhouse, and opened 17th March 1923. Modern brick plinth and weatherboarded infill.
Hipped tile roof. Some flint infill to side. Two dormer windows to rear and remains
of external brick chimney. Exposed roof and support timbers to interior.
