FLAMSTEAD RIVER HILL TL 0714 (West side) 9/49 River Hill Cottage - GV II
2 houses, sometime 3 houses, now one property. S part C18 or earlier, downhill N part C18, early C19 brick fronts to both , N part divided, made one property in C20. Timber frame roughcast, painted brick casing, steep old red tile roofs, front slope of S part slated. An irregular 2-storeys L-shaped group, facing E. S part has a 2-storeys gabled rear wing at SW with lower hipped roof extension to W. N part some feet in advance of S part, of 2-storeys. S-part is a 2-cells internal chimney, lobby-entry plan house with rear service wing and passage through front range at N end now converted to the main entrance. E front has low stucco plinth, 2 windows to each floor with sash windows of 3/3 panes under cambered arches with plastered reveals. Central door in heavy frame with round arched recess over. County fire insurance plaque above. N part has E elevation and shared central chimney dating from its C19 conversion to 2 houses. 2 windows to each floor, 2 blocked doorways toward ends, door to through passage at N end now in use. 2-lights flush Yorkshire sliding casements to 1st floor: 3-lights flush casement windows to ground floor. Segmental arches to ground floor openings. Plank door to passage. N end has plastered recessed gable triangle. Included for group value.
