House, former fishing house for Chorleywood House (not listed). Early
C19, altered, extended and part rebuilt in C20. Attributed to
J.B. Papworth who landscaped grounds of Chorleywood House for J. Barnes.
Stock brick. Hipped slate roof. Gothick Revival Style, 1 storey and
attic. Front immediately on bank of River Chess has a canted bay with
Gothick glazing, flanking round arched niches with Gothick traceried
seats all behind an ornate wrought iron verandah, pointed arch patterning
to railings, quatrefoil patterning in pointed arched heads to 5 bays. Hip
to front with fish weather vane. Left return has a ground floor 2 light
casement in a round headed reveal, inserted flat topped dormer. C19 door
with traceried oval light, moulded architrave and 2 further round headed
reveals to sliding sashes in C20 rebuild of rear portion. Right return
has a 1 storey C20 addition, 2 dormers. Cross axial stack to front of
centre. Interior: Gothick ribbed ceiling in oval front room.
