Monument at centre of The Bushey Rose Garden

The description shall be amended to read:

Monument on site of the Herkomer Art School. 1912. Designed with garden by T H Mawson for Sir H Herkomer. Bavarian tufa. Design may reflect Buddhist symbol- ism. Broad quatrefoil base with torus and scotia mouldings, and flower beds in each foil. To centre a rectangular pier with chamfered corners, and coved minor cornice beneath plain block top; continuous moulded cornice stepped out over free- standing shafts at angles with spurs at base. Mawson designed the garden in exchange for having his own portrait painted by Herkomer. (T H Mawson, The Life and Work of an English Landscape Architect, 1927, pp 211-213; Buildings of England: Hertfordshire, p 121).
