House. C16, E bay rebuilt mid C17, rear wing with stair added c.1700.
Restored c.1978. Timber frame, infilled with red brick, C18/C19 brick
casing to ground floor, steep old red tile roofs, half-hip at W. A
2-bays 1 1/2-storeys house facing North. N front has 2 3-light flush
casement windows, 2 2-light gabled dormers at eaves, large internal W
gable chimney and large external E gable chimney. E bay originally open
to roof as hall of medieval house, W bay an inner room with sunken floor
level. There was presumably a service bay at the E end with entrance
passage next hall. C17 E chimney built backing onto passage and this bay
altered to 2 storeys. W chimney stack and separate stair added in late
C18 when it became 2 cottages. Simple wall frame with straight angle
braces. Quadrant wind-braces to roof. Joists over hall beaded: plain in
inner (W) room. Shutter groove on S wall in hall. (RCHM Typescript).
