RICKMANSWORTH OLD SHIRE LANE TQ 09 SW (East side) Horn Hill, Chalfont St.Peter

8/210 Horn Hill Cottage 16.7.75 and Shire Cottage (Formerly listed as Nos. 1, and 2, High Trees Cottages in the civil parish of Chalfont St Peter) GV II Two houses. Probably early C17. Extended in C18 and C19. Altered C20. Probable timber frame to original house, extended in brick, all rendered. Tile and slate roofs. Originally 2 bays, possibly an open hall, now 1 storey and attic. 2 storey 2 bay house added to left. Two 2 light casements to front of Horn Hill Cottage. 1 gabled dormer and a 2 light casement where it joins later house to left. Single light in right gable end. Left end stack, originally external, now incorporated into ridge of Shire Cottage. Central entrance in reveal under a gabled hood on cut brackets. 2 light casements flanking on ground floor and to left on first floor. Left end stack. Added to right of original range a 1 storey 3 bay C19 range with buttress pilasters. Slate roof hipped to right. Lean-to addition to rear of original range with present entrance, 2 gabled dormers. Lean-to to rear left of later block. Interior not inspected. Shire Cottage included for group value.
