2. Mainly C16 timberframed. 5-6 bays. Plastered ground floor, exposed half-timbered and plastered upper floor. Welsh and Westmoreland slate front roof, mostly old tile on rear. L-plan having 2-block rear wing on S, which is C16/17 on E and C19, single storey, weatherboarded on W. 6-window front elevation has central, canted window bay on 2 wooden Tuscan column with 6 4- light casements and long sign beam. Closely studded upper floor, some diagonal braces, S side jettied on moulded bressumer, N side on bull-nosed joists. 1st floor sash windows, late C19 multi-pane shop front on N. Interior mostly with chamfered and stopped floor beams and joists. 2nd bay from S with v-profile moulded beams. Visually the most striking timberframed inn in the district. (Pevsner (1977) ).
