6/52 No 8 (formerly listed incorrectly as Tontine House), and attached railings
GV II
House, now offices. Mid-late C18 with early C19 extension and alteration. Dressed sandstone to front, Flemish bond brick to rear; ashlar dressings; slate roof; brick stacks. Centre stairhall plan, 1½ rooms deep, with rear service extension added. 3 storeys and basement; 3 bays. Raised quoins. Centre 4-panel door under rectangular fanlight,in raised, squared surround approached by stone steps. Early C19 bow windows on either side in frame of fluted pilasters and acorn drop frieze. Remaining windows are 4-pane sashes in raised, squared surounds. Raised first and second floor bands; cavetto- moulded eaves course. Coped roof with end stacks. Early C19 cast-iron railings to front ramped up to doorway. Interior: ground floor room to right has window shutters with raised bead mouldings, reeded architraves and cornice.
