KINGS LANGLEY RED LION LANE TL 00 SE (North side) 7/163 - Nash Mills Lock on Grand Union Canal
GV II
Canal Lock. Circa 1797 as a lock on the Grand Junction Canal Company (became Grand Union Canal by amalgamation 1929). Date 1877 on iron hinge of upper gate may mark repairs. Early C20 steps and revetment next lower gate. Brick and stone masonry basin with brown engineering brick steps and revetment next lower gate. Wooden gates with steel extensions to beams. Lock 88ft by 16ft to accommodate narrow boats in pairs. Gate and ground paddles to upper gates, gate paddles only to lower gates. (Branch Johnson (1970)118-20). The eastern half of the lock lies in Abbots Langley civil parish in Three Rivers District.
