MARKYATE HIGH STREET TL 0616 (West side) 8/173 Nos. 58, 60, and 62 GV II

House or inn, now 3 houses. Probably late C16, refronted in C18 and Nos. 58, and 60 refronted again in mid C19, when rear extensions were also added to each. Timber frame exposed only in carriageway to No. 64 and inside No. 58. Plaster front to No. 62, stucco front to Nos. 58, and 60. Stucco at rear, and flint-and-brick rear extensions with slate roofs. Steep old red tile roof to front range. A tall 2-storeys continuous range of uniform height fronting the pavement, facing E, immediately to N of No. 64 of which they probably originally formed parts as inn buildings. No. 62 is said to have been the tack-room for the inn stables, and has part of a gallery or 1st floor corridor at rear. E front of Nos. 58, and 60 of stucco lined as ashlar, 5-windows long. 1st floor has recessed sashes in plate glass. Ground floor has alteration of similar sash window, single and triple (T:S:T:S) with vermiculated rustication to false arches with keystones to middle 3 (T:S:T). At LH (S) end is a small C19 shopfront, pilastered with fascia, 2-lights window, and half-glazed door up 2 steps. At RH (N) end No. 58 has a half-glazed flush-beaded panelled door with rectangular fanlight, and large boarded double doors to carriageway through to rear. No. 62 retains its earlier plastered front and the stair facing of No. 60 covers half of a 1st floor window. 2 2-light sliding Yorkshire casements with small panes on 1st floor and the half-window at N side. 2 flush sash windows with 2/2 panes flank 6-panels half-glazed door up 2 steps under flat hood. Timber framing and fine C17 red brickwork in English-bond exposed on S end in carriageway to No. 64. Slated rear lean-to in brick and flint.
