Plane Trees Farmhouse and outbuildings with barn
II
Wrongly marked on Ordnance Survey map as Plump Trees House. Farmhouse and
outbuildings range. Mid-late C18. Coursed squared gritstone, graduated
stone slate roof, partly replaced by corrugated asbestos to outbuildings.
2-storey, 2-bay house, formerly 2 cottages, with 2-storey, l-bay cottage
added to left; 3-bay outbuilding with hay loft to right and 4-bay barn right
again, the 2 end bays with projecting outshut and lean-to addition. Quoins.
House, main block: paired doors centre, the left blocked; long and short
quoined jambs. Flat-faced mullion windows throughout: 3-lights flanking
entrance, 3- and 4-light to first floor; ridge stack left. Added bay left:
board door in plain surround, 2-light window to left, ground and first
floor; gable coping, end stack. Outbuilding to right: central double board
doors, shallow segmental arch, quoined jambs; external steps to hay loft
door left, byre door to right with moulded chamfer. Barn right again:
entrance under outshut bay 3, byre door bay 1 with pitching door above and 2
slit vents to right. Lean-to addition bay 4 has 2 reused recessed chamfered
windows. Shaped kneeler and gable coping right. Rear: random fenestration;
a 4-light recessed chamfered mullion window lights the hay loft opposite
first-floor door. Interior: house, ground floor, right has large fireplace
with late C19 range and deeply moulded wooden cornice now mantelshelf.
Outbuildings range: king-post roof trusses.
