4/85 Old Wellbury - GV II
House. Early C17 E crosswing and N range, brick front range in angle c.1700. Timber frame exposed only at rear with red brick infill, roughcast elsewhere or brick cased. Steep old red tile roofs, on rear range carried down over catslide outshut to rear NE. An irregular 2-storeys and attics house facing S, with gabled crosswing on E of front and lower old rear range extending as a projection on W. This range has a large internal chimney with back-to-back fireplaces in line with the front entrance. Large external E side chimney to E crosswing. Internal W gable chimney to brick front range. S front has 3 upper windows to brick part with plat band and plaster cove at eaves, and one to the crosswing with lower eaves. Gabled dormer on roofslope. A 4-lights window to left of door and a canted bay window to wing. 2-light cross casement windows to 1st floor, casements elsewhere. Flat hood to panelled door, 4 bays of timber frame exposed at rear of rear wing. Clasped-purlin roof to cross-wing. Brick wing has one room and stair hall. Moulded balusters to stair with unusual flat-topped rail. (RCHM Typescript).
