House. C16, E part C17, renovated and single-storey W extension 1984. Timber frame on stucco sill, roughcast with steep old red tile roofs, half hipped at W. A single-cell house facing N with large flint and brick external E gable chimney offset as if to allow for a gable entrance beside it. Extended to E with new lobby entrance in C17 with new fireplace in narrow red brick. Irregular N front with small leaded casement windows recessed and door in middle. Jowled posts with curved braces to tie beams. Clasped purlin roof with collar- and queen-strut trusses in former end walls. Straight wind braces to very heavy purlins. Flat layed rafters. Crossbeams and chamfered axial, floor beam. Mortices for wattle and daub infill and central 4-light diamond mullioned window under tie-beam. Wide open fireplace. Associated with novelist Ivy Compton-Burnett.
