5/101 The Old Vicarage, with courtyard containing stables and coach house

GV II

Vicarage now house. C1855. Snecked gritstone and ashlar, Westmorland slate roof. L-shaped plan in Victorian Gothic style. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Quoins. Entrance (north) front: pointed arch with central double board door in projecting 2-storey buttressed porch, with a 2-light trefoil-headed window above, under hoodmould. To left - a large external stack with square, recessed panel with shield in relief above moulded first-floor string, and a castellatd top. To right - a bay projecting forward as a 3-bay service wing, with 2-, 3-, and 4-light trefoil-headed windows with iron-framed casements and hoodmoulds. Rear (garden) facade: central glazed door with narrow flanking lights and overlight, all under pointed arch. Left bay springs forward and has 4-light mullion and transom window with quatrefoils to top lights. Bay to right has canted bay window with trefoil-headed light. First-floor windows, left and centre: 3-light trefoil-headed mullion windows under steeply-pitched gables. Single light, trefoil-headed window to attic, left. Moulded string-course at first-floor level. Gable copings and crocketted gable finials. Large stack between centre and left bays. Interior not inspected. Courtyard attached to west side of house has coach house and stables, fuel store etc, with retaining wall and double gates to front (north).
