BOMERE HEATH C.P. BERWICK ROAD (west side) SJ 41 SE SJ 4713 1487 10/78 Home Farmhouse - GV II

Moulded eaves cornice. 2 brick stacks behind front ridge and brick ridge stack to rear. 3 bays; boxed glazing bar sashes with gauged-brick heads. Segmental-headed basement windows. Central door with 6 raised and fielded panels (top 2 glazed), 2-part rectangular overlight and flat hood on shaped brackets. Left-hand gable end with segmental-headed attic glazing bar sash, 2first-floor blind windows and ground-floor blind window to right. Segmental-headed blind attic window in right-hand gable end with inserted 2-light casement. 2-storey addition to right with integral brick end stack, first-floor segmental- headed 2-light wooden casement and ground-floor segmental-headed 3-light wooden casement. Interior not inspected. A map (still kept at Berwick) made of Berwick House (q.v.) and its surroundings in 1760 by Thomas Ansell shows a house on the site of Home Farmhouse, marked as "The Tennants House". It appears to be of an early C18 date (Berwick House is dated 1731),so the present building, assuming the accuracy of the map, must have replaced the earlier one sometime after 1760.
