Granary approx. 50m north-east of Heightley Farmhouse
II
Domestic building, now granary. Circa 1600 with later alterations.
Weatherboarded timber frame, graded slate roof. 2 storeys, formerly
with attic. Ground floor open to front in 3 bays with 2 elaborately
carved posts and straight-flight oak staircase to left, 3 hatches to
first floor. Interior: framing visible to first floor, close-set vertical
posts to gables and front wall, square panels with short straight tension
braces to back wall; red brick infill throughout. Square-panelled timber
framed partitions also with red brick infill; moulded doorframe with
ogee stops to second truss from left. Queen-strut roof in 3 bays with
double purlins and straight windbraces forming lozenge shapes to upper
purlin; jowled wall posts. Sawn-off joist ends for former second floor
visible to tie beams.
