Kinton Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Probably late C15 or early C16, extended late C16 or early
C17 with later additions and alterations. Roughcast timber frame on
uncoursed limestone rubble plinth; plain tile roof. T-plan; hall range
apparently of 3½ framed bays with probably earlier 2-bay cross-wing
(originally jettied to front) projecting to right. One storey and attic
to hall range, 2 storeys to cross-wing. Mid-C20 fenestration, one casement
on each floor to cross-wing with one casement to either side of C20
pedimented door to hall range, contemporary gabled eaves dormer directly
above that to right. Main entrance through C20 gabled timber porch abutting
lean-to in angle between hall range and cross-wing; prominent red brick
ridge stack to right of hall range has 4 attached and rebated shafts
with diagonal projections and moulded capping. Timber framed range
to rear in angle between hall range and cross-wing (probably housing
staircase) has weatherboarded gable. Mid-C19 rubblestone range to left
with early C19 outshut to rear (former dairy) of mixed timber frame
and stone construction. Cellar beneath cross-wing has natural rock
to walls. Interior: inspection not possible at time of re-survey (November
