Details

BUILDWAS C.P. WENLOCK ROAD SJ 60 SW (east side) 5/19 The Folly II 2 cottages, now one house. Probably mid- and late C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with red brick infill and cladding, machine tile roofs. 2 cottages, left-hand one of 2 framed bays with mid-C20 extension to left and right-hand one, probably the earlier of the 2, also of 2 framed bays. One storey and attic; framing: exposed to right-hand cottage, 2 large rectangular panels from cill to wall-plate, long straight tension braces and jowled wall posts, left-hand cottage clad in C19 painted brick; irregular fenestra- tion, left-hand part has 2 late C20 casements and door to contemporary extension to front and one late C19 casement on right, C20 gabled eaves dormers to left and right; right-hand part has a 3-light late C20 French window to centre and a small late C19 casement to right, 2 late C20 gabled dormers in roof slope; re-built ridge stack to left of centre to left-hand cottage formerly an end stack before addition of C20 extension to left. Interior: timber frame (square and rectangular panels) substantially intact; chamfered spine beam in main ground-floor room to right and chamfered cross beam with heavy joists in main ground- floor room to left.
