House. C16 former open hall house, altered and extended in later C19, S block with loggia early C20. Timber frame on flint and brick sills, exposed framing infilled with red brick. Decorative crossbracing etc. in C19 parts infilled with coursed red tiles. Steep old red tile roofs. A large irregular 1 1/2-storeys house with hall range in middle facing E with 3-centred blocked doorway to former cross-passage at its N end. Parlour cross-wing of 2-storeys does not project to front or rear. Larger service wing to N projects to rear and was extended further and with 2-storeys infill porch in the angle to rear, and later lean-to N porch with gabled dormer on roof. Original single-storey wing runs ESE from E end of service wing. 3-lights oak oriel windows generally to ground floor and 1st floor. Original parts have convex curved tension braces showing notched across outside of studs. (RCHM (1911)130 no. 5: VCH (1912)25).
