7/47 Ashgrove and attached cowhouse

II

Farmhouse and attached cowhouse. Probably early to mid-C18, altered and extended in mid-C19. Uncoursed limestone rubble and brick dressings, slate roof, axial brick ridge stack to right of centre. Aligned north-south, aspect west; perhaps a longhouse derivative. 2 storeys; 3 windows on first floor (with a further blocked opening beneath stack), 4 to ground, including one to attached cowhouse to left, all late C19 metal casements, those to left of stack with Gothic glazing and cambered heads; ledged door to left of centre. The left hand end of the building is a cowshed with hayloft over, the access to which is in the left hand gable end. Interior. Both ground floor rooms have heavy spine beams and joists and the fireplace in the room to the right a massive, curved timber lintel.
