WILLERBY MAIN STREET TA 07 NW (south side) Staxton 7/86 May Cottage and attached wall at right - II House. Mid C18; raised later. Cottage of chalkstone rubble, whitewashed; pantile roof and brick stacks. Wall of squared chalkstone on sandstone plinth, with sandstone coping, part rendered. 2-cell, direct-entry plan with outshut. 2 storeys, 2 windows. Off-centre board door flanked by 2-light, large-pane casements in original openings. 2-light, 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes on first floor. Painted timber lintels to all openings. End stacks. Interior: square-section joists throughout ground floor. Plank doors on L-hinges on both floors. In room to right, a cast- iron range in original fireplace is concealed behind false end wall which new occupants intend to remove. Garden wall at right approximately 1.6 metres high, with sloped coping. Buildings at rear not of special interest.
