16.5.66 Statue and Pedestal (formerly listed as Statue and Pedestal in Hurstbourne Park) II

C18. Associated with Wyatt, who designed the mansion (now gone). The structure is a cube, with arched openings in slightly projected facades, surmounted by a semi-spherical dome. The walling and dome is heavily rusticated limestone (imitating tufa) and the deep recesses are lined with squared knapped flint, all on a brick foundation. The crowning feature is a male Roman 'emperor' figure, with a crouching child. The whole stands on a square berm, with orientation to former avenues. The sole surviving landscape feature of a once-notable landscaped park.
