7/57 The Old Shop (formerly listed as 1/12/51 Post Office)

- II

Former farmhouse, now house. C17, altered C19 and C20. Uncoursed limestone rubble, partly brick to rear and plastered to south and west gable ends, machine tile roof. T-shaped in plan with 3-bay range aligned north-south and a central single-bay projection to west. One storey and attic; central projection one window deep, flanked by one window on right and blank wall to left, one gabled dormer to south, one to west, windows all C20 casements; prominent stack with red brick capping to west gable end projection, outer C20 doors to south and west; C19 catslide outshut to rear with bread oven. Lower projecting single-storeyed range (former cowhouse) to west, 3 windows and roughly central door. Interior. Most impressive feature is inglenook fireplace with chamfered lintel; ground floor rooms to south and west with chamfered beams and exposed square panelling to cross wall; the roof is of Queen strut; construction. Although formerly listed, the old list description was actually mistakenly of Snead Farmhouse (q.v.) which presumably it was intended to list.
