4/67 Mill Cottage (formerly - listed as Millhouse, 21.3.68 Martonbeech)
- II
Cottage. Late C16 with later alterations. Timber framed-with plaster infill, graded slate roof. 2-cell plan. One storey and attic. Framing: small square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate with short straight tension braces to rear; roughly coursed limestone rubble to right gable end incorporates original integral end stack (top rebuilt in C20 red brick) and mid-C19 red brick left gable end has small integral stack. Late C19 or C20 gabled timber framed porch to centre with C20 inner and outer doors has late C19 casement to left and late C20 mullion window to right; late C19 gabled eaves dormer with 2 casements immediately to left. Large stone bread oven to rear on right. Interior: timber frame exposed throughout with woven and wattle and daub infill exposed to 2 panels; vertical posts to cross-wall, which has infilled doorway predating oak winder staircase to back wall; right ground-floor room has 2 chamfered spine beams, that to front with stepped stops, flat joists; large inglenook fireplace with chamfered wooden lintel. Single-purlin roof in 2 unequal bays has central collar and tie beam truss. The cottage was formerly part of a mill complex.
