Farmhouse. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed
with painted brick infill and painted brick underbuilding to ground floor;
slate roof. L-plan comprising long hall range apparently of 2½ framed bays
and shorter cross-wing, probably of 2 or 3 bays, projecting to north. 2
storeys with gable-lit attic to cross-wing. South elevation. Framing:
hall range has 2 square panels to first floor, largely rebuilt and painted
black and white in imitation to right; collar and tie beam truss to gable
end. Cross-wing has herringbone patterns to first floor, repeated to left
return, and jettied attic with C20 bressumer supported on corner brackets;
square panels with light diagonal struts to gable. C19 casements to first
floor and attic of cross-wing and to centre of hall range on first floor,
remainder (to right of hall range on first floor plus 3 to ground floor and
one to ground floor of cross-wing) all C20. Mid-C19 gabled brick porch
over flush 6-panel door to right of cross-wing. Prominent red brick stack
directly in front of ridge to left of hall range and stepped external end
stack to right with top rebuilt in early C20 red brick. North elevation.
Framing: as south side except attic of cross wing has original plain
bressumer with mutilated carved decoration supported on C20 carved brackets.
C20 casements to first floor and attic of gable with C20 casement to ground
floor. Three C19 horizontal sliding sashes directly below eaves to hall
range. Full-length C19 or C20 brick lean-to below continues round as
single-storey hip-roofed lean-to to left gable end. Interior. Inspection
not possible at time of resurvey (January 1987) but north wall of hall range
(behind lean-to) noted as having C17 plank door.
