Gateway and flanking walls
approx. 300 metres to south
east of Hodnet Hall
II
Gateway and flanking walls. Dated 1631 and 1954. Yellow/grey
sandstone ashlar. North side: flanking buttresses with chamfered
offsets, banded rustication, returned as voussoirs, and keystone.
Frieze with raised rectangular panels, and broken triangular pediment
resting on brackets and with central globe finial in tympanum. Pair
of decorative wrought-iron gates. Flanking walls of tooled ashlar
with ramps up to centre and square end piers with globe finials. The
gateway stands at the south-east corner of the gardens at Hodnet Hall
(q.v.). It is similar to the main gateway (c.1870) in Church Street
(q.v.). Hodnet Hall dates from 1870 and is not included on this list.
