MILL LANE 1. 5253 (North Side) Mill House at Sawbridgeworth Mill (formerly listed under Station Road) TL 4862 1515:2/1 24.7.75 II GV 2. C18 with C19 extensions. Timberframed weatherboarded house next sluice. 2 storeys and attics with slated gambrel roof. External gable and lateral red brick chimneys. C19, 2 storey rear addition, timber framed and weatherboarded with low pitched slate roof and gable stack in stock brick. Single storey weatherboarded and slate roofed section on E end, extended in front (S) in mid C19. Contemporary 2 storey extension set back on W end. 2 window front, sash windows with 8/8 panes. On Gd floor, 1 window with door on right. Plank door with heavy frame. Moulded architrave and flat hood on shaped brackets. W extension plastered and lined as ashlar with moulded cornice and frieze. Paired sash windows with moulded architraves and 6/1 panes. Brick plinth. E single storey extension plastered and lined as ashlar. Wooden frieze and architrave to overhang of lead roof at front. Row of 3 flush sash windows with moulded architraves and 6/1 panes. Plinth of upright slates. Same heavy slate slabs used to revet garden.
