17/135 Dovecote approximately 8 - metres to south-west of Whitton Hall GV II

Dovecote. Early C18. Red brick; conical graded slate roof. Circular plan. Chamfered plinth, toothed-brick band approximately half-way up, and dentil brick eaves cornice; round-arched dormers to north-west and south-east, and central circular glover with turned wooden balusters, and conical slate cap with wooden finial. Segmental- headed opening high up to south-west; segmental-headed boarded door to north-east. Interior: approximately 520 L-shaped nest holes with ledges; central rotating potence with 3 projecting arms for ladders at different heights. Cobbled floor. The dovecote forms part of a good country house group with Whitton Hall (q.v.). H.E. Forrest, FLS, Some old Shropshire houses and their owners (1924), pp. 6-7.
