Details
ACTON BURNELL C.P. ACTON BURNELL SJ 50 SW 6/12 Nos. 16 and 17 - (The White House) GV II Cottage, latterly divided. C17 with mid-C19 remodelling and addition. Rendered over timber frame with red brick nogging and brick addition; plain tile roof. 2 framed bays with later addition; Tudor Gothic remodelling. One storey and attic. Scalloped barge boards; 2 full gabled dormers with 2-light wooden casements, that to right with returned brick hoodmould; brick stack in front of ridge off-centre to right. 5-window front; 2 central 2-light wooden casements with rendered returned hoodmoulds, blind or blocked window to right with rendered returned hoodmould; 2 one-light casements flanking boarded door to left with C19 gabled wooden porch consisting of chamfered posts, curved braces, boarded tympanum, and pendant finial. Gable end to north has one-light attic casement and 2-light ground-floor casement, both with rendered returned hoodmoulds. Interior: collar and tie-beam roof trusses with queen struts and V-struts; chamfered beams with ogee stops; large open fireplace with chamfered lintel; C17 boarded doors with strap hinges. This house is in a prominent position at the cross-roads in the centre of the village.
