4/31 Clipsham House and Stable
II
House and stable of c1820. Coursed squared stone and ashlar with Welsh slate, low-pitched hipped roofs. 7 ashlar side stacks. In Nash's Italian villa style. 2 storeys of 2-light wooden mullion and transom ground floor windows and casements above. Stone sills and, on the ground floor, cornices supported by consoles. Main range with lower service wing to right. Main range front has central polygonal 2 storey bay with 3 stone steps up to rounded moulded arch. A part glazed door with stone frame and cornice within. A French window with iron balcony over. A fixed 1-light ground floor left. To right a window both floors. On left end a canted 2 storey bay, (3 windows) and a window both floors to left. To rear a 3 window front with a ground floor canted bay either side a French window. A C20 large conservatory to left on service wing. Front of service wing of 3 windows over door and 2 windows. To right of service wing connected to house by garages the 1 storey stable in similar style with square centre louvre. Lead roof and weathervane to this. A remarkably little altered example of this style and formerly the Rectory.
