4/231 The Old Malthouse -
GV II
Barn, converted to malthouse and subsequently domestic accommodation. Probably C17 with extensive mid-C19 and late C20 alterations. Timber framed, now largely clad with red brick; plain tile roofs (eaves of main range raised when converted to malthouse in C19). Long range on 2 levels aligned north-east to south-west (former barn) with paired 2-storey gabled projections to rear at north-east end and a single gabled projection at south-west end forming maltings. Framing: fragmentary external survival to north-east gable end and back wall - square panelling: the dominant features to front are 4 blind pointed openings with inserted C20 windows; toothed eaves cornice and a tapering brick stack in roof slope, re-built in late C20. To the rear the gabled projections have round-headed cast- iron casements with Gothic tracery on first floor; a bracket for a former hoist above right-hand window in paired gabled projection.
