Dovecote approx. 20 metres to south-east of Golding

II

Dovecote. Early to mid-C18. Red brick with pyramidal plain tile roof.
Hexagonal plan. Dentil brick eaves cornice and hexagonal wooden glover
with shaped-headed openings and pyramidal lead cap with spike finial.
Two storeys. Loft with circular opening to south and segmental-headed
doorway to south-east; small square ground-floor windows to south and
north and segmental-headed boarded doorway to south-west. INTERIOR:
shallow brick domed roof to ground floor. It is possible that the
dovecote was in the loft only and approached by a ladder from the south-
east, and that the ground floor served another purpose, perhaps as a
kennel. The dovecote is probably contemporary with the C18 remodelling
of Golding (q.v.). The pigsties adjoining to the east are not included
in this list. V.C.H., Vol. VIII, p.62.
