Country House, now flats. Circa 1872. Architect Owen Jones, for Lacey Collard, piano manufacturer. Squared red sandstone rubble masonry, with white limestone dressings, quoins, dentil cornice, West Somerset slate roof. Entrance facade: 3 bay single storey block, central porch, gabled Y tracery dormers, 2 storey gabled bay left with acroteria as finials, and coping stones. 3 and a half storey pyramid-roof staircase tower to right, 2 and 3 light mullioned and transomed windows. Ballroom wing with rondel in gable projects forward right, 2 storey L-shaped servants block with stables beyond to left. Garden facade: 4 bay loggia with balustrade and gabled Y-tracery dormers above, between 2 storey gabled wings with splayed bay windows at ground floor, conservatory to left. Remarkably eclectic detailing. Interior not of interest. One of the few buildings designed by Owen Jones, the influential Victorian design theorist; and the only one surviving.
