Details
STRETTON-EN-LE-FIELD SK 31 SW 4/91 Stretton Mill II Mill, now house, of 1633 and c1700 with large c1960 right hand additions encasing part of original. Plain tiled roof: rebuilt stacks. Original part stone, 1½ storeys, with 3-light stone mullion window and Tudor arched door to its right with C20 dormer above and stone date plaque 1633. To rear mullion window with dripmould, mullions removed, and single light over. At left a C19 1 storey hipped roof extension over millstream, C20 windows. To right, enclosed in C20 additions part of stone range with 2 original doorways and sundial on internal former end wall. Here joins brick range of c1700 with inglenook and beamed ceilings. This range totally encased. On first floor of stone range massive tie beams and a section of close studding with dovetails showing are visible. Site mentioned in Domesday Book as having a mill. Ashton, N, Leicestershire Water Mills, Wymondham, 1977, p 92, where also photograph of mill before c1960 alterations.
