7/34 The Castle
GV II
Folly. Mid C18 of older materials and C19 additions. Reused dressed stone, brick with old plain tile roof. Building in form of tower of 2 storeys of dressed stone facing N towards house, with behind 2 bay brick building with tall narrow stair turret on one side and C19 wing on the other. Tower has diagonal buttresses to N corners, and C18 mediaeval pointed door in centre, each side inset reused column, above inscribed tablet, and at top C18 2-light pointed cinquefoiled window and string course with parapet above. Sides each have 2 of these windows. Reused carved figures and bosses abound on N front. Brick stair turret is gabled and blank but for one casement. On S side is C20 porch leading to door in rear bay, with casement above and end stack.
