4/35 West Stoke Farmhouse II

Inn now farmhouse. C17, C18 & early C19. Timberframe part, brick infill, part brick cased, part tilehung, later building brick, stuccoed with incised lines, roofs slated, and rendered brick stacks. L-shaped C17 inn with L-shaped early C19 range to complete square. C17 front 2 storeys. 3 bays with 4th bay to left of C19 building with C20 bay window in front. Centre doorway with C20 brick, flat- roofed porch. Windows all C20, but most in original openings. Roof steep pitched with gable chimney stacks at each end of 3 bay building. C19 front, 2 story 3 bays, with C20 bay windows to each side. Central glazed door under flat roofed porch supported on 4 plain columns. Each side 12-pane sash with small 6-pane sash over door. Roof low pitched with overhanging eaves and stack at either side on return ridge. Inside early C18 built-in sideboard in bar room which has stone flagging and large fireplace with ovens. Other interiors C18 panelling and early C19 interior to later wing. Building until c1800 Red Lion coaching inn on now defunct turnpike from Winchester through Wonston to Whitchurch.
