GV II* House and rear service block, now a bank (front) and offices. Late C18.
Stuccoed walls, plinth (part of painted brickwork, with low cambered openings),
cambered openings, stone cills and parapet coping: each side has an elaborate
texture of interlaced bevelled quoins and blocks, cambered arches with triple
keys to centres and sides, moulded coping to (higher) parapet, having panels
above the windows, moulded cornice, architrave moulding as a 1st floor band.
Tile roof, hidden by a parapet. Symmetrical east front of 2.3.2 storeys,
2.3.2 windows. Sashes in reveals. Doric doorcase with open pediment, 3/4 columns,
swag ornament, panelled reveals, and 6-panelled door. The east side has (at the
rear) a fine oak staircase, with dado panelling. The rear of these premises are
stables and service buildings abutting Brook Street, having painted brick walls
of Flemish Garden Wall bonds, plinth: tile roof with wrought-iron brackets to
the eaves: one five-light C18 leaded casement, an arched doorway beneath a hay-
loft door, a low access door and a carriage doorway. Inside, there is a kitchen
with a medieval carved stone bracket (of a bishop's head, assumed to be a
fragment from the nearby ruined Bishop's palace).
