NZ 70 SW GLAISDALE GREAT FRYUP DALE East side 11/103 Slidney-Beck Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse, probably originally longhouse derivative of mid C18, modified in later C18. Coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone with plinth and stepped eaves; asbestos roof. Double-pile hearth- passage plan.
Two storeys. Entrance front 4 bays Door in chamfered surround in third bay. Small window to left, C20 casement to right, late C19 casement above. Boarded door at far left, with a wide and a narrow chamfered stone-mullioned window to right of it; early C19 sashes with glazing bars inserted. 2 similar larger sashes above. Later pent right extension.
Character may be seen more clearly from garden front: Half-glazed door to through-passage. House part on right has fire window (to hearth backing on passage) and two 3-light stone-mullioned windows, mullions removed and plain C20 casements inserted. Two C19 sashes in gabled half-dormers above. Former byre part at left has 2 small C20 casements.
Interior: chamfered house doorway off through-passage. Later C18 doors and panelled passage partition. Boxed-in fire beam in sitting-room and joists with quarter-round moulding.
