3/19 Manor Farmhouse

II*

House. C16, with some early C19 cladding, and C20 extensions. Tiled roof, with exterior walls of several materials. A late-medieval house, with timber framed structure of L-shape, with C20 wings; 2 storeys, irregular fenestration. The south-east elevation has only 2 windows in a long wall, and the north end has a forward wing ending in a gable. A massive shafted stack rises in the centre of the roof, and there is another massive stepped stack at the south side of the wing. The upper wall is mostly tile-hung (of the C20) in the main part, above brick walls in Flemish bond, the wing has flint walls with brick dressings, with the upper gable tile-hung. The timber frame is exposed in part of the north-east wall and at the rear with brick infill and other walling, with high plinths. The C20 rear wings have tile hanging above brickwork on the larger north side, the south wing having some exposed bricknogged frame in the gable. Casements, including several early C19 cast-iron diamond frames. Boarded door in a a solid porch. Inside, there is exposure of the framed part, with 2 wide fireplaces, and in one room a Tudor arch to the fireplace (the interior chimney breast is massive and includes an oven). Between a passageway and the room with the Tudor fireplace is an oak-panelled C16 screen and door. A staircase of later insertion has C18 turned rails, the structure having come from another building.
