II
Disused corn watermill and mill house. Mill of C17, C18 and C19 date, house of mid C19. Rubble, stone slate roofs. 3 storeys; 3-bay mill and 3-bay house forming a right-angle. Mill has ashlar stonework to wheelchamber, with inscription on lintel 'S. S. 1771', referring to Simon Scrope III of Danby Hall. Recessed bay to right with original mill entrance with altered wide chamfered quoined ashlar surround, bearing graffiti dating from 1688. Window openings have deep ashlar lintels. Hipped roof. Rear elevation: C18 door surround with interrupted jambs and keystone. Interior: undershot waterwheel, spur gearing with 2 pairs millstones and crown wheel. House: central ashlar doorcase with moulded surround, paterae at upper corners and simple cornice, 5-panel door. 4-pane sash windows with ashlar sills and lintels. End stack to right.
