CATTERICK HIGH STREET SE 29 NW (east side) 8/31 County Hotel 4.2.69 GV II

2 houses, now hotel. Dated 1755. Roughcast, concrete interlocking-tile roof. T-shaped plan, 2 storeys, 2:3 bays with rear wing. Plinth. Main house to right: central 6-panel door below overlight in door-case with Tuscan half-columns, frieze with paterae and anthemion, cornice. Flanking, segmental bow windows with sashes with glazing bars, fluted pilasters and anthemion on capitals, Greek key decoration on frieze. First floor: sash windows with glazing bars and stone sills. Shaped kneeler and ashlar coping to right. Stepped brick stacks at ends. House to left: panelled door below 3-pane overlight in second bay. In first bay, added segmental bow with Greek key decoration on frieze. First floor: sash windows with glazing bars and stone sills. Shaped kneeler and ashlar coping to left. Stepped brick stack to left. Rear elevation: segmental bow window to ground floor of wing. Date on right-hand kneeler of wing. Interior: moulded cornices to ceilings and beams of front ground-floor room. Cantilevered stone staircase with plain wrought-iron balusters.
