ASFORDBY MAIN STREET SK 71 NW (South Side) 2/5 No 159 1.1.68 II House, formerly farmhouse. Dated 1730, altered C19. Red brick in Flemish garden wall bond, Swithland slate roof, brick end and ridge stacks. L plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Central 6-panel door with moulded wood surround and segmental-inched brick head. 12-pane sash windows to ground and 1st floors with similar head. Chamfered ironstone plinth, patched with brick, brick storey band, stepped brick eaves, brick-coped gables and large limestone datestone below eaves above door inscribed with initials including M and date 1730 below, in moulded surround. Full-height wing to rear left. Interior has own fireplace with chamfered bressumer, chamfered spine beams, one with ogee stops. Brick-vaulted cellar with well.
