Details

WHITCHURCH URBAN C.P. SAINT MARY'S STREET (north-east SJ 5441 side 8/118 No. 33 GV II

House. Dated 1762, but probably early C19. Red brick with slate roof. 2 storeys and attic. Painted sandstone ashlar plinth with chamfered rustication and toothed-brick eaves cornice. Central brick ridge stack and integral brick end stack to right. 2 gabled dormers with 2-light wooden casements and slate-hung sides. 4 bays; 16- and 20-pane glazing bar sashes with painted stone cills and segmental heads. First-floor window in second bay from right with probably reset flush datestone inscribed: R R : D 1763 Late C19 half-glazed door in second bay from right with early C19 wooden doorcase consisting of reeded pilaster strips, fluted architrave, frieze and moulded cornice to triangular pediment. Segmental-headed side-passage doorway to left with boarded door and vent above formed from 4 omitted headers. Right-hand return front with small ground- and first-floor windows to left. Interior not inspected. Included for group value.
