7/72 Providence Cottage.
G.V. II
House, formerly an estate cottage. Mainly C19, but incorporating earlier re-used material, and possibly with earlier core. Red brick, black-glazed and smut pantiles. Two storeys, with 1½ storey range to west. Two storey block with symmetrical facade : two ground floor sashes with glazing bars, two 3-light first floor casements. Windows set in chamfered gault brick surrounds. Window bays slightly advanced. Central doorway with lean-to canopy on timber brackets. Gault brick panel with the initials RW set above doorway. Parapeted gables with external stacks, that at the west gable larger. Single- storey lean-to at east gable. Two small brick buttresses on south wall. 1½ storey block to west elaborately decorated and partly timber-framed. Slightly advanced two-storey bay off-centre with plain tiled gabled roof: two three-light square-headed windows with arched and cusped heads to lights. Three terra-cotta panels at first floor level, possibly re-used chimney shaft bricks. Upper window flanked by large console brackets supporting roof structure. Timber panel above window head with motto "God's providence is mine inheritance." Wall to right of bay partly timber framed with brick infill. Small arched window with leaded glazing. Arched doorway in chamfered brick surround to left of bay. Crow-stepped west gable; attic window with gabled hood. Lean-to extension at rear.
