COTTON TM 06 NE 2/14 Cotton Hall -
-- II Manor farmhouse. Mid C17 with late C19 facade. Timber framed and rendered, the facade cased in red brick. Roof of C20 clay plaintiles. 3-cell, lobby entry range with contemporary wing to rear, forming T-shape plan. 2 storeys and attic. Casement windows, mainly of 3-light mullion and transom pattern, with slender horizontal glazing bars; segmental arches. One-storey late C19 gabled brick porch with mid C20 oak door. A small circular window over the porch. Stack has plain axial shaft. One-storey gault brick wing to left. Interior. Main range has intact 6-bay frame with plain studding; no bracing is visible. Joists set flat throughout, mostly plain, those in the hall chamfered. Service end originally divided axially into 2; original trimming at rear for a stair. C19 newel stair by stack. Oak attic stair at service end. Stack is built of large brick and seems to be a later rebuild. Roof has a lower row of substantial stepped butt purlins with straight wind bracing in the end bays; upper part of roof not visible. 2-bay rear wing has identical roof. Surrounding medieval moat.
