MENDLESHAM OLD MARKET STREET TM 16 NW 7/62 No.8 (Tudor House) 29.7.55 (formerly listed as Premises occupied by A.W. Braybrooke, Back Street)

GV II House. A C16 3-cell range with slightly later wing set forward to left. Restored 1950's. Timber framed with exposed close studding. Plaintiled roof. 2 storeys. End-jettied wing facing road. Mid C20 casement windows with square-leaded and diamond-leaded glass. Inner return wall of wing has plank door enclosed by a mid C20 gabled timber porch. Internal stack with plain C19 shaft. Small later stack in wing. Lean-to addition, rendered and plaintiled, against right gable end. Interior. Main range has substantial studding and reverse-curved braces. Heavy plain joists in hall and parlour ceilings, the floorbeam in the hall unchamfered. Open fireplace in hall. A C17 cambered ceiling in the parlour chamber. Heavy irregular joists in ceiling of forward wing, a later upper ceiling now removed. Roof over main range not examined.
