Tower Mill, 350m south east of White House
II
Tower mill, now disused. Circa 1840 by John Whitmore, millwright of Wickham Market. Small white brick tower, one half cement-rendered, all tarred. 3 floors above the ground floor; tower reduced in height by about 2m. c.1940 to the level of the 4th floor. Small-paned sash windows. Boarded entrance door and first floor loading bay. Cap and sails removed late 1930's. Internal machinery comprises lower half of iron upright shaft, iron spurwheel with wooden cogs, iron stone nut and spindle, one pair of millstones (of two) complete with tentering. The sprattle beam carrying the upright shaft is supported by H frames against the wall; typical Whitmore practice.
