Details
CODFORD CHITTERNE ROAD ST 93 NE (east side) 7/40 Ox Barn GV II Detached cottage. Late C16, altered and extended C18. Rubble stone and Flemish bond brick, thatched roof with half-hip to right and brick stacks. Single-storey and attic, 2-window south front; entrance to left return. French windows to centre, 2-light segmental-headed casement to right and 3-light casement to left. Full gabled attic dormer with 2-light casement to right; right half of front is refronted in C18 brick. Left return rebuilt in brick with thatched porch and 2-light casement to right, 3-light casement to first floor. Right return has C20 extension. Rear is windowless. Interior has very deep chamfered beam with bar stops, exposed joists. Open fireplace with chamfered lintel on chamfered stone jambs. Planked doors with strap hinges. Cottage possibly originally timber-framed and single-cell, extended in rubble stone to west and refronted in brick late C18.
