3/332 The Barn
II
Former stables, late C18 or early C19, converted to house c1900. Squared rubble stone with ashlar dressings and stone slate half- hipped roof. c1900 added ashlar stacks with diagonal shafts. Picturesque Gothick north west front with projecting and canted centre, ground floor 3-light window with pointed lights and hoodmould and first floor pointed former loading door with hood. To each side is a depressed-arched doorway with hoodmould and quatrefoil light over. Bead-mouldings to all openings. Added c1900 small lancet by each door. South end single storey c1900 addition with single lancet and balustrade. Two-storey north end addition in two sections with recessed centre, lancet lights to match original building. Stable may originally have been built for Winsley House which has a similar Gothick window on an outbuilding, the rest having been rebuilt in 1902.
